Jan Herrington is Associate Professor in IT in Education at The University of Wollongong, and a member of the Research Centre for Interactive Learning Environments (RILE).
The last 20 years of her professional life has been devoted to the promotion and support of the effective use of educational technologies in learning. She has extensive experience in the instructional design, teaching and researching of online and multimedia learning environments. She has been a Principal Investigator/Developer in a number of competitive grants including a Large ARC grant to investigate the role of authentic activities in the design of online learning environments, three CAUT/CUTSD Teaching Development Grants to develop innovative learning environments, and a Fulbright Professional Award in 2002 to conduct research at the University of Georgia, USA.
Recent research and development interests have focused on the design of web-based learning environments for higher education, the use of authentic tasks as a central focus for web-based courses, and design research. She is a reviewer for five international refereed journals in educational technology and has published widely in the area.
