Welcome to Vol. 2, Issue No. 2 of the Journal of Learning Design.  This issue focuses on three key areas: application of authentic and innovative approaches; use of media tools, visualisation techniques and multi-pathed and multi-voiced architectures; and research and reframing to deliver effective learning designs.  Authentic learning as a design concept is not new, however the papers in this issue will provide insight into how authentic approaches can be applied to support collaborative and work-based learning.  The second set of papers sets their focus on accomodating visual learning through supporting the development of mental models, particularly for abstract and complex concepts.  Research and proven learning principles to provide the framework for the design of learning show how this grounded approach is effective and provides the pathways to further development.

This issue comes at a time of change with the administration of the JLD and we extend our thanks to the authors and reviewers that have accompanied us through these trying times.  More than ever, we hope that you, our readers, will derive new joy and insights into the excellent work done by the authors in this issue.
